The End is Near

Well, it feels like it’s getting nearer anyway.  All of a sudden the end of June doesn’t look very far away.  I think there are a number of reasons for this, not least that there are a number of my peers who are finishing their programmes (because they started earlier that I did) and are starting to drift off.  Two of my favourites are leaving at the end of next week – on the up side, I will get my own car for a month instead of having to share one !

There are other reasons that the end seems to be creeping up – I am trying to get some more work here for instance, and everyday that passes is another day closer to not having a job at the end of this…….which always makes the time fly !

I have also had to change a number of plans lately which has led me to look much further ahead than usual.  I hadn’t been to Dubai for several weeks up to last weekend and now suddenly I might be there 4 weekends on the trot what with people flying in to the UAE, Trade Shows, (bloody) dentists, and favours……….(I have to be in Dubai on Wednesday, tomorrow, night so that I can get to the dentists on Thursday morning without to much hassle and in returning the favour for the bed at a mates flat, I have agreed to be there on Saturday to receive his Ikea furniture delivery because he’s away somewhere.

The following weekend I have offered to give up my room at my Desert Hideaway so that a friend can put some of his army of daughters and boyfriends in a nice room and save a considerable number of Dirham.  He’s shelling out a month’s wages on an apartment in Dubai this week when they all arrive so we’re all keeping our fingers crossed concerning Ash Clouds.  I haven’t decided where I’ll stay yet as I can probably get free accommodation in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai (depending on the mates return date from wherever he’s going)

And then the week after that I’m having dinner with a work colleague from the UK who’s over here for the week doing some business development, so I might as well stay the weekend although I might be sick of it all by then and just come back here on Friday – only time will tell.

I’m really putting in some hours at the gym and on the road now……and I think I’m starting to see some benefits……..probably……It really needs someone else to tell me I think, as I only see tiny changes, despite staring at myself, covered in sweat, for hours on end, in the mirror (sounds attractive I hear you all shout……..).  It’s another reason that the end seems to be racing up – I promised myself a six pack before I went home and despite the seemingly endless hours of pain and moisture, it seems to be a long time coming.  I guess you can’t reverse 30 years of bad living in a few months without some pain and misery !  The plan is to do a 50k bike ride tonight but at the moment we are having a teensy weensy bit of wind which is a pain because it tends to bring a teensy bit of sand with it………great for exfoliation but it does somewhat take the gloss off a long bike ride !

The food I’m surrounded with has reached new levels of boredom….I mean, who’d have thought that you could get bored with someone making you scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes and smoked salmon every day ?  Believe me, you can and when you’re doing no carbs, you can’t do milk, and you’re waiting to go back to the dentists, it doesn’t give you much choice !  I’m fully intending to live on chicken kebabs from the Lebanese Mill for a couple of days from Thursday night, which is a nice change and something I’m looking forward to.  I might get to the bakers next door as well…….and about 10 visits to the gym to make up for it I suspect.

I haven’t had a drink since Friday night and could murder one at the moment, still, I can wait until tomorrow and I’ll certainly be having at least one or two warmers on Thursday in Abu Dhabi as that’s the object of the exercise.  I have to drop in at the off-licence on the way to Dubai to pick up some stuff for my friend with no alcohol licence (I’m a good boy !)

I can’t think of much else to tell you other than the weather is the weather and it’s hot (which is a huge surprise I’m sure).  Someone remarked that they still open the curtains in the morning and wonder what the weather will be like………scorchio !

I’ve spent very little money since the weekend but I don’t suppose that will carry on.  I know it doesn’t sound like much but I’ve doubled my laundry bill by going to the gym twice a day.  I suspect that my drinks bill will be painful this weekend but it’s off-set by the lack of pain killers I will have to buy when I finished at the dentist !

Right, back to the grindstone, it’s nearly thinking about knocking off time !
