Which is why I’m going to limit your excitement today (that and I haven’t got anything of worth to tell you…….)
Work moves on at a pace. I have now worked out what I’m supposed to do, who I’m doing it with, what I’m doing it with, when and why – all I need now is to be left along to get on with it. There were several 30 minute chunks of yesterday that I’ll never get back, but then Sundays are always like that.
We have a weekly management/ team meeting which is an opportunity for the big (but not the biggest) boss to pass on a few pearls of project wisdom etc. The problem with that is that the rest of them come out of the woodwork to see and be seen, which inevitably leads to a certain amount of seagull management amongst the teams. To be fair, my boss is fine because he’s so busy putting out fires amongst the other parts of his department he hasn’t got time to worry about me. The problem is that when two or three are gathered together they feel the need to give the rest of us the benefit of their vast experience.
Yesterday afternoon we all (and I mean about 40 of us) had to stop what we were doing and spend 30 minutes listening to instructions on something that I finished two weeks ago (because I chose to get on with it and get it out of the way) and 30 minutes on something that I won’t have to do for about 3 months and therefore will undoubtedly have changed by the time I get anywhere near it.
It’s generally the fault of people with job titles like “Change Manager” or “Integration Manager” but then I suppose I should be happy that I have somebody to worry about whether I’m integrating – if they weren’t here they’d probably be worrying sheep or something !
The only other thing of note really has been the weather – yesterday it rained, the wind blew, there was sand everywhere and it bordered on cold and miserable. Thank fully the sun is shining this morning and steam is rising off the pool again so we appear to have made it through winter !
Lastly for today, and just to wet your appetite, there is real camel racing on for the next three Saturdays here at Madinat Zayed – the excitement is gripping us all (well, those of us who had the luck and foresight to extend our bookings here at the Tilal Liwa so that we don’t have to decant to a hotel an hour away……). I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s all about !
Right, I’m off to work and you lot will still be asleep I don’t doubt. Have a good Monday, safe in the knowledge that I got my Monday morning feeling out of the way yesterday !
