I have survived 2 nights training with Phyco……just. Last night I did not distinguish myself particularly well when we went out running in the desert. In fact it was probably one of the hardest training sessions I have done since I have been here. Whether it was the weather (it was very hot and dry) or diet (or over dieting in my case) or simply because I hadn’t rested since last Sunday, but my legs felt like lead and my throat burned and I just couldn’t keep up. Phyco resorted to dropping and doing 10 press-ups whilst I ran on ahead so that she could sprint to catch up with me and bearing in mind that this was after 45 minutes running it was A) pretty impressive, and B) a bloody miracle that I was still running to be frank !
I did have to have a couple of walks otherwise I don’t think I would ever have got back in one piece……and my feet are killing me !
Tonight was a different story ! You will remember last weeks circuit training efforts I assume (you’ll have to look up the detail but essentially she nearly killed me !), this week (tonight) I was ready for her……mostly. Alright I didn’t do the very last set of exercises which she likes to do after we have finished but I did every thing else without cheating, without walking down the hill or missing out any exercises. I’m feeling very proud of myself and awarded myself apple crumble for pudding (no custard, cream or ice cream though, not through choice I might add but for some reason they don’t really do sauces over here, you rarely get gravy for instance, and tonight’s ice cream was mango sorbet, which probably wouldn’t have gone very well with apple crumble.)
I have to go to Abu Dhabi for the day tomorrow for reasons that I will fill you in on at some point more appropriate so as I won’t be back (probably) until late I am going to have a complete exercise rest (I might do a bit of T’ai Chi before bed but that doesn’t count !).
I think I will throw in the inventory at this point as the diet thing is quite relevant:
Food: I am convinced that last nights big dinner went some way to helping me back on the right track and although I don’t intend to eat enormous meals like that in the evening regularly, I have decided that I need to eat more and more often, if that makes sense. It seemed to work today because I felt much better this evening doing circuits so I am going to try and stick to it, even if its just fruit all day. I’ll keep you informed !
Gym: nothing more to tell you other than I’m not doing T’ai Chi tonight because I can barely stand up !
Money: as always ! I worked out that I have spent AED 21 since last Monday, but I have just put some laundry in and whilst I was cleaning my shoes this morning I noticed that the sole has gone. I can’t be bothered to try and find a cobbler here (even if one exists) so I’m going to have to shell out for some new shoes at some point, and I’m rubbish at shopping. I have also put my toe through the front of both trainers so they will have to go in the bin – but not before I have some new ones and I’m not sure when I’m going to get to the shops next. Maybe not until mid May when I’m going to Dubai for a conference…….oh woe is me ! My desert boots are nearly flat on the bottom as well………
Cigars: not many is probably the best I can say. I have two tins left and I’m trying to cut down a bit so that if I do give up then it won’t be such a shock to the system. Time is going to tell on that one as well !
Alcohol: Nothing – but there will definitely be a bottle drunk tomorrow night ! Watch this space.
Right, that’s me done for the evening. I thought that you might like to see this picture…..
It’s a camel spider, it was taken last night, outside the hotel, and although there is no way of corroborating this (you will just have to take my word for it), it’s the size of a grown man’s hand……Night night.
