On top of the World

Today’s inventory:

Cigars: 2 and a half (I have a cold/sore throat)

Alcohol: Nothing yet but the brandy in my suitcase is calling me (I have a cold/sore throat……)

Gym:  Nothing today (I have a cold/sore throat………………)

Money: AED 3 for my falafel at lunchtime.  Tomorrow I have to pay to get my laundry back so I'll have to remember the code for my safety deposit box in the room !

Photo of the day:

And so it begins………….

I thought that pointing at nothing was probably a good place to start as I couldn’t be pulled up for any minor technicalities……..I await comments with interest !

As you can see I am standing on a hill on the edge of the desert (I’ve always had a talent for the bleedin obvious……….)  I’m probably pointing at Saudi Arabia which isn’t all that far away from where I am – in “crossing the desert on a camel” terms anyway, cause there aren’t any more roads out there as far as I know ?

I’m standing there (where I am) because it’s directly out the back of the other hotel I’m staying at this week (I’m sure I’ve already explained why I’m here so you will just have to go back and look it up !).  On the other side is……….

a green valley full of date palms as far as you can see.  The town is called Liwa and there is a very famous Date Festival here several times a year (enough for them to have a huge tarmaced and fenced area with “Date Festival” over the gate anyway).  I expect they have the festival on account of all the dates that they grow here…………maybe we will never know……..

So finally I should show you the view from the bottom of the hill looking back up at the hotel……

If you look closely you will be able to see my bedroom window with it’s expansive view of the car park and the industrial area at the bottom of the hill.  A bit of a change from my previous views over the desert !  To be honest, this hotel reminds me of Bournemouth - I know what some of you are thinking………..but it’s just a little bit run down and a little bit lonely.  It sort of comes from another era.  I suspect at some point it was quite swanky, and to be fair, there’s nothing wrong with it as long as you don’t compare it with last weeks !

Tomorrow I have another boring car journey and another boring day in the office so have some sympathy with me even though the sun is shining !

Finally I would like to give a massive public thank you and a round of applause to my lovely wife, who not only managed to get organised enough to send me away with a bag load of organised cards but I got chocolates inside my Valentines card as well !  Obviously I love her very much !

I did post a card from here to be fair, but it remains to be seen when it actually gets to the UK, never mind the house………and I did send a text message as well to make sure that she had something to open when she woke up…….then I sent it again on the right day just to make sure………

And one last finally – Ad revenue: £23.11 so “keep on clicking” ! (there must be a Country and Western song in there somewhere……..)

  4. I wish - it's about as opposite as you could get if I'm pointing to Saudi ! This hotel has no alcohol licence so it isn't there either !
