Not a bad combination as far as I can see – and not necessarily in that order !
Today I managed to convince the triathlete to take me out for a run………I really don’t know how it happened but it just did. I had in mind to go for a gentle few lengths in the pool and before I knew it I could hear myself saying “I can run a lot further, just not as fast”……..she didn’t even want to go for a run cause she’d had a shit day at work and was sat on her terrace outside her room as I was walking back in from work. Madness, pure, unadulterated madness. I can only put it down to all this sand and heat – I think it’s finally got to me.
Jezzzz, I have barely got my breath back ! And I can only blame myself for most of what happened after that – we set off down the road and after a while there’s this track off into the desert, “I wonder where that goes”…….and so we set off down the track. I start to look at my watch and we’ve done about 15 minutes at a reasonable pace so I say “lets run to that box thing up there and then turn back”….the box thing takes another 5 minutes so I know that I’m already in for 40 minutes if I can manage to maintain some sensible speed (or live…..). Bless her, I managed to get here to stop talking after about 35 minutes – I thought I had finally run her out of breath. Turns out she wasn’t even puffing but she was worried that I might expire if I answered any more questions….what a let down. 42 minutes in the end - but I ran, and ran reasonably well for someone of my age and ability, all the way ! She's going away tomorrow for the weekend so I'm safe till Sunday at least - 20 minutes on a cross trainer tomorrow when she's not looking - Hah !
On the up side, she came in the pool with me, in a bikini…….it was worth an hours hard labour just for that alone !
The wine, brandy and cigars came during and after dinner. One of our number (who has been out here since September time) is finishing tomorrow and a couple of us sat down to dinner and ordered a bottle of red to go with our nosh (which he very generously paid for !). Lovely to have a glass of wine with dinner for a change. This was naturally followed by brandy (mine) and cigars on the terrace……which was nice !
For a number of reasons today’s blog is going to be short I’m afraid, partly because I’m knackered, partly because I haven’t got much to say, partly because I have just managed to delete the photos of this mornings fog from the camera, and partly because I’ve had half a bottle of wine and 2 very large brandi es……oh, and partly because I spent an hour on the phone to the family listening to their woes (one with a tooth abscess, one with a trapped nerve and all three with nits ! there is definitely something appealing about being here at the moment ! Oh, and it’s which isn’t helping !
Today’s inventory:
Cigars: 4 (1 extra on the terrace with the brandy)
Alcohol: I think we’ve covered that already
Gym: I think we’ve covered that already as well !
Food: A special mention has to go to the most delicious chicken pie I had this evening (and vanilla ice cream – my first visit to the pudding section for anything other than fruit !)
Money: Nothing. Someone bought my falafel for me at lunchtime and my laundry wasn’t ready for me to collect.
Weather: Thick fog (and I mean thick) this morning followed by the usual scorching sun etc. blah blah blah !
Photo of the day: Thick fog over the pool and the gardens (deleted – it may never come again and we have all missed it……..sorry)
But to make up for it I’m going to stop and take pictures of camels tomorrow….loads of them !
Ad revenue: has jumped to a staggering £75.45 – I’m so proud of you all. Keep on clicking those adverts and we can see if we can get the big names to come and post on our little page. The more the merrier !
